Building the Policymakers' Edition of the Gender Data Futures: A Handbook for Transformative Data Governance
Innovation For Policy Foundation
The Innovation for Policy Foundation (i4Policy) was founded in 2019, building on years of collaboration between African innovation hubs to co-create better policy environments. With a focus on participatory governance and inclusive policy-making, i4Policy has pioneered initiatives like the Africa Innovation Policy Manifesto and organized hackathons, supported startup policies, and worked with governments on participatory governance projects across the continent.

Project Phase
Building the Policymakers' Edition of the Gender Data Futures: A Handbook for Transformative Data Governance
Hosted by Innovation For Policy Foundation
You are helping shape the Policymakers’ Edition of Gender Data Futures: A Handbook on Transformative Data Governance — a reimagined version of the Handbook originally developed by Pollicy, crafted specifically for your community.
Through a collaborative “translation” process, we’ll turn the original handbook into a more concise, accessible, and action-oriented resource, one that makes the gender transformative approach a practical and powerful tool for policymaking in the data governance space.
Your First Task – CEP Consultation
You will participate in a two-part CEP consultation to help us understand how the handbook can better serve policymakers and other stakeholder groups.
1. Review the CEP Handbook
Purpose: Assess clarity, usability and relevance for your context.
What to do:
- Read the handbook from a user perspective.
- Flag excerpts/words/expressions that feel unclear, too dense, or difficult to navigate.
- Note terms or ideas that could be simplified or reframed.
- Share reflections such as: What felt easy or intuitive? Where did you struggle? Was the format readable or text-heavy?
Optional but helpful:
- Highlight missing content or gaps we should consider.
2. Analyse the Table of Contents
Purpose: Help shape a learning journey that fits policymakers’ needs.
What to do:
- Review the Table of Contents on its own.
- Identify sections most relevant to policymaking.
- Rearrange or prioritise them to create a clearer, step-by-step learning flow (think of this as designing the reading/learning pathway, not just selecting content).
