    Engagement Phase

    Africa Youth Month

    Background

The African Youth Charter adopted through an Executive Council Decision of the Banjul Summit of 2006 (DOC.EX.CL. /292 (IX), established the 1st November as “African Youth Day (AYD).” The day recognises a unified voice of young people, which aims to increase awareness of, commitment to and investment in youth; increase and strengthen youth participation and partnerships, as well as increase intercultural exchanges and understanding among young people.

Against this backdrop the African Union Commission through the Women, Gender, and Youth Directorate (WGYD) is commemorating African Youth Day 2023 through month-long activities under the theme “1 Million Next Level is Knocking: Youth-led Movement that Transcends Borders”. The theme is a call to all youth development stakeholders, member states, and partners to mobilize, implement and support the 1 Million Next Level Initiative through creating and accelerating implementation of the African Youth Charter.

    Introduction

Unlocking Africa's potential through entrepreneurship is an imperative to ensure it is the driving force behind economic development. To align with the specific objectives of African Youth Day 2023 and to emphasize entrepreneurship as a key avenue for youth empowerment, the following activities are designed to harness Ghana's vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem and empower its youth to pursue successful business ventures. These activities will reflect the country’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and providing young people with the tools and opportunities needed to thrive in the business world.

    Activities

    1. Entrepreneurship Training and Workshops : participants will receive training sessions designed to equip them with essential skills and knowledge required for successful business ventures. These workshops will delve into critical areas such as business planning, financial management, marketing, and accessing funding, offering practical guidance and mentorship.
    2. Access to Finance Forum/Session: a dedicated platform to discuss various financing options available to youth-led enterprises within the country. This forum will explore topics such as venture capital, microfinance, crowdfunding, and government support programs. It aims to educate and empower young Ghanaian entrepreneurs with valuable insights into securing financial resources for their business endeavors.
    3. Fireside Chat with Successful Entrepreneurs: Ghana's accomplished entrepreneurs will take the spotlight in the Fireside Chat session, sharing their personal journeys, experiences, and guidance with aspiring business leaders within the country. This conversation will serve as an inspirational and educational platform for Ghanaian youth, providing them with real-world perspectives on entrepreneurship and mentorship
